SCHOLARSHIP FOR
THE VISUAL ARTS


The Brighton Art Guild is pleased to announce a call for applications for the 2008 Brighton Art Guild’s Scholarship for the Visual Arts. This $200 scholarship, to support the creative development of young Livingston County artists, will be competitively awarded based upon an applicant’s merit and goals in the visual arts. There is no cost to apply.

Eligibility
All high school students ages 14-18 who are residents of Livingston County are eligible. Scholarship recipient(s) from the previous calendar year will not be considered.

Requirements
Students must submit a completed scholarship application form along with an artist's goal statement, at least three, but no more than five, artwork samples (photo prints or jpgs only), and a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) for your notification.

Submitting Artwork Samples
Artwork samples may be submitted by color photo prints (4”x6” or larger) or jpg files on CD (150 dpi, with one of the dimensions being at least 5”).

Securely label your photo prints or CD case with your name and list each artwork title, medium and size.

If submitting jpg files on a CD, use the artwork title as the jpg file name, e.g., sunflowers.jpg.

If you wish to have your photo prints or CD returned, include a mailer with appropriate postage along with your entry form. The Guild is not responsible for returning submissions if a mailer with appropriate postage is not provided.

Digital Photo Session
The Guild will conduct a free digital photo session Saturday, October 18, 2008, from 12:30-4:30pm, at the Brighton District Library for students wishing to have jpgs taken for their application. Students may bring no more than five pieces of artwork to be photographed.

Students must register by Friday, October 10 to attend this session. To register, contact Carole McGeehan at 810-229-2132 or clsmcgeehan@comcast.net.

Artist’s Statement
Your artist’s statement should be at least 50 words, and should include 1) why you make your art; 2) how you make it; 3) what it’s made of; 4) what your art means to you, and 5) what your goals are for the next year.

Applications should be mailed on or before October 25, 2008, to:

Applications postmarked after October 25 will not be considered.

Notifications
Notifications will be mailed on November 8, 2008. The chosen scholarship recipient will be presented with their scholarship check no later than December 10, 2008, at a venue to be announced.
