Notifications
Notifications will be mailed on May 24, 2008. The chosen intern(s) will be formally announced
at the opening reception for the Guild's Kaleidoscope exhibit, Saturday, May 31, 2008, from 6-9pm,
at Art on Main, 316 W. Main St., in downtown Brighton
Eligibility
Students ages 16-22 who are residents of Livingston County are eligible.
Career
Interns will each be matched with a mentor artist working in a common medium of interest.
Interns will determine their career development goals for the summer and work individually
with their mentor artist to develop a plan for achieving those goals. Interns and mentor
artists will schedule to meet twice a month to monitor progress.
Internships cumulate with an exhibit of the intern's work in early September.
The exhibit should include pieces of artwork work done in the last 18 months,
prepared for gallery presentation with gallery cards, business cards and artist statement.
The Guild will arrange the venue for the exhibit.
Service
Interns will volunteer some of their time to assist with Guild's programs,
such as gallery sitting at Art on Main, assisting on a Friday evening with Art at
the Millpond and/or helping with preparing and promoting other events, workshops and programs.
Community
Interns will work with the Guild's art festival team to develop and staff a hands-on art
activity for the public at the Guild's booth during the Brighton Art Festival, August 15-16, 2008.
Requirements
Candidates must submit a completed internship application form along with an artist's
goal statement, at least three, but no more than five, artwork samples (photo prints or jpgs only),
and a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) for your notification.
Artist's Goal Statement
Your artist's goal statement should be at least 50 words, and should address how you would use this
summer internship to "take that next step" in your art career and what that next step may be.
Interns should also consider accomplishing one or more pieces over the summer that reflect
"taking that next step" in their artwork.
Submitting Artwork Samples
Artwork samples may be submitted by color photo prints (4"x6" or larger)
or jpg files on CD (150 dpi, with one of the dimensions being at least 5").
Securely label your photo prints or CD case with your name and list each artwork title,
medium and size. If submitting jpg files on a CD, use the artwork title as the jpg file name,
e.g., sunflowers.jpg.
If you wish to have your photo prints or CD returned,
include a mailer with appropriate postage along with your entry form.
The Guild is not responsible for returning submissions if a mailer with
appropriate postage is not provided.
Digital Photo Assistance
The Guild offers free assistance to students who need jpgs taken of their artwork for
their application. To schedule, leave a message for Carole McGeehan at 810-225-8197,
